Joyce Darleen Salsbury passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023, at the age of 82 in Surprise, Arizona. She was born on January 13, 1941, to Thomas and Ruby Pederson in Ottawa, KS. She was raised with her five sisters on the family farm before attending Kansas State University, where she met the love of her life, Richard (Dik) Salsbury. After they married, they lived in Omaha, NE, Minot, ND, and Coeur d’Alene, ID, where they had daughter, Stacy, and son, Dana. They then moved to Spokane, WA until retiring in Surprise, AZ.
Joyce was all about her family. She was a devoted, loving wife and the best mother. Grandsons, Alex, Josiah, and Isaac were blessed with the most amazing and involved grandma/mima. You could always find her tangled up in odd locations (boxes, play pens, under tables, etc.) in order to spend time with the boys. She enjoyed reading, sewing colorful quilts and fun soft dolls, traveling, photography, and scrapbooking. The first word that would always come to mind when talking about Joyce was “sweet.” She was the perfect mate for her husband with her calm and happy demeanor.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Wanda Pederson, Gwendola Chandler, Deloris Davidson, and Tomalea Pederson. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard Salsbury, daughter Stacy (Ken) Bester, son Dana (Melana) Salsbury, grandsons Alex Bester, Josiah Salsbury and Isaac Salsbury, as well as her sister, Inger (Ron) Showalter.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank Hospice of the Valley for their generous care and support.
Joyce’s beautiful and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all those she knew and loved.
