Maurice Bender

Maurice was born in Gravity, Iowa to Albert and Bernadine Posten Bender on November 29, 1933. The first 10 years, Maurice was raised in Grant, Iowa, where his dad was Postmaster and owned a grocery store. The family moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1944 where his dad opened and operated a Firestone store. The family moved to Clarinda, Iowa in 1949 and Maurice graduated from Clarinda High School in 1951.

After high school the family moved to Covina, California and Maurice attended Mt. San Antonio College in Pomona,California as a freshman. He transferred to the University of Iowa in 1952 as a sophmore. After one year at the University of Iowa, Maurice transferred to UCLA in Los Angeles, California and graduated with a Business Degree in Finance in 1955.

After college, Maurice was employed with United Airlines, Convair, Aerojet-General, Giannini Controls, Corp, Leach Corp and the Department of Defense., s11 in the Southern California area. After 26 years with the Department of Defense, Maurice retired as Diirector, Contract Management Division.

Maurice met Floy Hughes at Giannini Controls Corp. and in 1964 they were married in Covina, California. They have one daughter, Kim Michele who is married and living in San Carlos, California.

During their many years together, Maurice and Floy traveled extensively throughout the world. Many of these trips were with family or friends. We always said, "We don't have any money, but we know how to have a good time."

Maurice retired from the Defense Dept. in 1993 and he and Floy moved to Sun City West, Arizona where they have many friends and enjoyed their retirement years.

Maurice is survived by his wife, Floy, one daughter Kim Pinsker, and two grandchildren, Joseph Hughes Pinsker and Rachel Alexandra Pinsker.
