Obituary

Richard Fielding Spinney, age 90, peacefully ascended to heaven on September 9, 2023. Born in 1933 in Lynn, Massachusetts, Richard led a remarkable life filled with bravery, knowledge, and unwavering faith.

After graduating high school in 1952, Richard embarked on a journey of service to his country. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1953, and the Air Force in 1954, where he fearlessly served for four years. In 1958, Richard pursued higher education at Pacific Lutheran University, earning his bachelor's degree in teaching. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue a master's degree at the University of Washington.

Richard's passion for education was evident throughout his career. He began teaching at Renton High School 1964 and later retired from Hazen High School in Renton, where he imparted his wisdom in economics, history, and government to countless students. Richard's dedication to his craft and his genuine care for his students left an indelible impact on their lives.

Richard's life was enriched by the love and companionship of his longtime partner, Donna Gropp. Together, they shared countless adventures, both in Washington state and Arizona, where they resided. Richard's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for hiking. He conquered the majestic peaks of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, and Mount Baker, and his membership in the Mountaineering Club showcased his adventurous spirit.

An avid dancer and tennis player, Richard found joy in movement and shared his passion with those around him. He cherished the friendships he built over the years at Sun City Grand, where he formed deep connections and created lasting memories.

Richard's unwavering faith in fundamental Christianity was a cornerstone

of his life. He held his religious beliefs dear to his heart, finding solace and guidance in his relationship with God. His commitment to his faith shaped his character and brought him peace throughout his journey.

Richard is survived by his loving partner, Donna Gropp, his brother Ed, sister-in-law Carol, niece Sherri Hewitt, and her children Abigail, Josh, and Alex.

His memory will be forever cherished by those who knew him, as he leaves behind a legacy of a life well-lived, filled with adventure, passion for education and most of all faith.

In Richard's departure, we find solace in knowing that he lived a long and fruitful life, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of those around him. As he joins the Lord in heaven, his spirit will continue to inspire us all. Richard Spinney will be dearly missed, but his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
