Ruth “Ann” (Hutchens) Walker passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ in Surprise, Arizona, on Monday, April 1st. She was born on July 24th,1928 in Wabash, Indiana to her parents Rufus and Kathryn (Fisher) Hutchens. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her siblings Barbara, Dave, Dick, Steve, and John. The family spent many years living in Kalamazoo, MI.
Following graduation from high school she went to training in Fort Wayne, Indiana to become a nurse. She started out as a scrub nurse in surgery, and then she volunteered in a family clinic in Japan. She spent many years raising a family and working as a nurse in South Bend, Indiana at Memorial Hospital. Her nursing passion was caring for the sickest patients and as her health deteriorated, she let all those caring for her know that she was an ICU and CCU nurse!
On January 1, 1953, Ann married the love of her life, George “Bill” Walker. They welcomed their first child, Jim, into the world in 1955, followed by their daughter Georgann in 1956, and lastly their daughter Nancy in 1957. Bill and Ann recently celebrated 71 years of marriage this past January. During this time, in addition to living in Indiana, they enjoyed their retirement years living in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Sun City West, Arizona and spending their summers with her sister-in-law, Susan Pyne and family, at Crystal Lake, Michigan.
Ann will be remembered by all who knew her by her warmth, generosity and welcoming spirit, her love of family, spending time around water either sailing or swimming, playing cards with her grandchildren, and hosting family and friends.
Left to carry on Ann's legacy is her husband Bill, along with her three children, Jim Walker (Susan), Georgann VanderJagt (Chip), Nancy Stults (Jerry), her brother Dave (Jill), her sister-in-law Sue (Don), 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
