Shirley Jean Linert (née Latimer) was born on January 4, 1938, in Murray, Kentucky, to a family of hard-working tobacco farmers. She passed away at home surrounded in love by her family on June 22, 2022 in Surprise, Arizona.
In her early childhood, her parents moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she later met her husband, John J. Linert, at her high school Winter dance. Shirley was known for her independence, her wit, and her kind-hearted thinking. She worked at the Detroit stockyards and would later become a highly respected medical librarian at Banner Hospitals.
She and her husband were the best of friends for 64 years, always holding hands, saying kind things to each other, and he would follow her on his bike as she did her 3-5 mile walk each day. Their marriage was built on deep love, respect, humor and is an example of a partnership many admire.
Shirley always hoped for the best, kept everyone around her on their toes, and smiled and winked throughout life. She is tremendously loved and celebrated by her family, including her husband, John J. Linert, her son John M. Linert and daughter-in-law, Regina M. Linert, as well as her granddaughters, Amy A. Cantwell and husband James, Kirstin K. Ledin and husband Jake and her great-grandson, Otto C. Ledin.
