Violet "Vi" Poland Obituary

Loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend Violet “Vi” Poland, aged 92, passed peacefully from this earth on July 31, 2022. Born Violet Elizabeth on March 29,1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Benjamin and Gertrude Hoefle. Vi had one sister, Allene Tyler and one brother, Harold Hoefle of, Minneola, Florida. When Vi was 3, the family moved to Evington, Virginia where they lived for 11 years, they then returned to Detroit in 1945. Vi graduated from Northern High School in 1948. Vi and her future husband, George, attended the same high school and were in Economics class together. On George’s return from military service, he proposed to Vi. They married on March 24, 1951 and spent 72 happy years together. In 1953, the couple bought a home in Garden City, Michigan and raised their family. Vi was a stay-at-home mom for her 3 children, Allan, Nancy and Linda. In 1971, the Poland family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and Vi began a career as a floral designer. By the 1980s, Vi and George were retired and traveled the country in their 5th wheel camper. In 1987 they settled in Sun City West where they have lived since that time.

Vi was a highly creative person. She excelled at floral design, knitting and crochet. Her family and friends snuggle up in her many beautiful Afghan blankets. She was also a top-notch gardener and loved to cook for family and friends. She spent 30 plus years researching her family tree and published a book on the Brockett family line of her genealogy.

Vi was a faithful and active church member. She often brought fresh flowers to display at services. She edited and coordinated the publication of the church cookbook. She served as WM president, a woman’s ministry organization in the Assembly of God church.

Vi is preceded in death by her parents and sister Allene. She leaves behind her husband George, brother Harold, 3 children Al (Mary) Poland of Springfield, Mo, Nancy Augustine of Ypsilanti, Mi, and Linda King, of Sun City, AZ, 9 grandchildren: Thomas, Alison, and David Poland, Jenn, Amanda, and Jason Augustine, Laura Hall, Robert Preston, and Jesse King, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
