Alda Geiger Obituary

Alda Lou Geiger, age 92, of Sun City, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 4, 1929, to the late Lewis F. and Hazel E. (Gaul) Hyatt in Syracuse, NY.  It was very appropriate that as a 4th of July baby she was born with beautiful red hair. She attended Split Rock High School, graduating class of 1947; then furthered her education at Powelson Institute obtaining an Associate’s degree in Medical Secretarial. On February 10, 1951 she married Marvin B. Geiger at St Mark’s Church in Syracuse N.Y. Alda worked as an Executive Secretary for Carrier Corporation in Syracuse, as well as a part time fashion model for Engel’s Dress Shop, and then became a full time Mom to her four children. In 1966 the family moved to Arizona when General Electric transferred Marv to Phoenix. Alda was always a very active volunteer for numerous church and local charities.  She had a passion for knitting and made dozens of baby blankets that she gave to friends and relatives. Alda also maintained her membership to Beta Sigma Phi and was Woman of the Year in 2009.

Alda is survived by her loving spouse of 71 years, Marv; three children, Cindy Sparks (Doug), Roger Geiger (Margie), Brenda Mastro (Mike); ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and numerous extended family and friends who she deeply cherished. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Corriero, her loving parents, and sisters Cora Snover and Shirley Sherman. Alda left us a legacy of love and caring for family and friends.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on April 28th, 2022 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 17111 W. Bell Road, Surprise, AZ 85374 with a private Committal Service at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alda’s honor may be made to the Foundation for Blind Children, 1234 E Northern Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85020.
