Gertrude Nielsen Obituary
On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, Trudy Nielsen, loving wife and mother of four, passed away in Surprise, AZ, at the age of 90.
Trudy was born March 17, 1933, in Salem, Mass., the fifth of six children, to Edmund and Lea (LeBel) Tremblay. Known by her family and childhood friends as “Gert,” she took the nickname Trudy” as an adult when she met her husband, John (Hamilton, MA.) He was a state trooper through the turbulent 60’s and 70’s, and Trudy supported (and endured) life as a trooper’s wife. They made Danvers, MA their home and together they raised four boys.
They moved to Arizona in 1978 when John retired from the state police. He went to work at Digital, and she worked part-time with Diet Center while also doing volunteer work. Trudy and John were married 44 years, from January 1956 until his death in December 2000.
Trudy was a devout Catholic and was very active in the women’s groups, such as Catholic Daughters and Lady’s Sodality at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers, and later as Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Valley, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Prince of Peace Catholic Churched in Arizona.
Trudy loved to smile, to laugh, and was usually “on the go” with her many friends or church family. She loved music, loved to sing, and was a quick study to learn lyrics to new songs. She participated in singing clubs and was a regular for years at karaoke get-togethers. Everyone who knew Trudy said they loved her strong faith, her positive attitude and energy, but mostly her infectious smiles and the gleam in her bright blue eyes.
Trudy was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her son Kurt. She is survived by three sons, John, James, and Karl, two daughters-in-law, Chere and Heather, her brother Bert, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held in honor of Trudy at Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel, located at 13738 W. Camino Del Sol Sun City West, AZ 85375, on Thursday, January 4th, 2024, at 12:30pm.
