Gloria Jean Beckman

Gloria Jean Beckman, 77 passed away peacefully at home in Wittman, Arizona on Tuesday July 25, 2023. She was surrounded by her family. Gloria was born on August 24th, 1945 and raised in Hammond, Indiana, daughter of Harold Raymond and Helen Marlatt. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Beckman, her brother William Ronald Marlatt and sister Patricia Ann Marlatt Hendron. She is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Bert) Wells and Ann Sartin: 4 granddaughters, Lindsey Webb (Dustin Broome), Gracie Hicks, Bridgett and Jenna Wells and 1 great granddaughter, Willow Grace.  Brother Richard Marlatt and Sister Helen Marie (Stem) Stempkowski. Lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Gloria and her daughter Ann decided to move to Arizona in June 1989 to be with her daughter Debbie. This is where she would meet her late husband Ken while working at Desert Shadows Apartments. Eventually they would get married on July 5, 1991.  They were married just short of 29 years before Ken passed in May 2020. Gloria loved all Chicago sports teams especially Da Bears and Bulls. Gloria loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She was a very proud MeeMaw and not afraid to show off her grandkids. Gloria also loved her Friday night bowling leagues. Gloria would give her opinion without flinching or an apology but she never dismissed you for your choices and always welcomed you home when it didn’t work out. She may slide a little ‘I told you so’ into the conversation but it was met with a smile and a hug. She touched our lives with her joy and thoughtfulness. Her legacy lives on with those who had the privilege to know her, love her and be loved by her.

A memorial will be held on her 78th birthday at 9:30 AM on August 24 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024 and a celebration of life to follow at the home of Ann Sartin.
