Jean Novak Obituary

Jean Ellen Novak, 72, beloved wife, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024, in Sun City West following a brief illness with family by her side.

Jean was born on September 22, 1951, in Huron, South Dakota where she grew up with her parents and sister Joann.  She graduated from Disabled Children’s High School in 1969 and Sioux Falls College in 1974.  Even though Jean faced polio at a very young age prior to a vaccine, she did not let the physical limitations get in the way of her goals and aspirations.  Jean moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1979 and retired from the Southwest Gas Corporation in 1999 as a customer service agent.   She met the love of her life, Rick Novak, on St. Patrick’s day in March of 1993 and they married on March 29, 1997.

Jean was loved by all who met her and was dedicated to her family and friends.  She had a passion for traveling with many adventures in their RV visiting destinations all over the U.S.  She also had a love of the ocean and lived in a beachfront condo down in Rocky Point, Mexico for several years with her husband and kitties.   Jean had a soft spot for animals and over the years adopted several cats and always ensured the hummingbirds were well taken care of.

She was known to always keep up on the latest news going on in the world along with being witty, caring, determined, and a truly beautiful person inside and out.

She is survived by her loving husband Rick Novak of 27 years, stepson Chad (Susan) Novak, stepson Brad (Tammy) Novak, stepdaughter Chelise Novak-Matousek, stepdaughter JD (Dave) Powers, niece Katie (Mike) Madison, great nephew Dallas Madison, sister-in-law Vicky Rae Novak, and 9 grandchildren Zack, Jake, Connor, Katelynn, Elizabeth, James, Dylann, David, and Christian.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Esther Hook, sister Joann Kolsrud, and nephew Matt Kolsrud.

The family will have a private celebration of life on March 2, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Sun Cities 4 Paws Cat Rescue, 11129 W. Michigan Ave Suite 1 Youngtown, AZ 85363.
