Jeanne Ellis McDaniel Sulley was born in Joplin, Missouri to Harold and Dorothy McDaniel on August 14th, 1929. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Dorothy McDaniel and son, Steven. She is survived by her husband, Richard, daughters Barbara (Joseph) and Karen, grandchildren, Leigh, Joel, Jackson, Madison, and Harrison and four great grandchildren.
She lived in Lyndon, Kansas until the age of 21. She attended Baker University where she was president of the Phi Mu sorority and a member of the band, choir, and Baker’s Singers. She was named Baker Beauty Queen and Kappa Sigma Sweetheart. She married Richard Sulley in 1951. Jeanne taught one year of grade school music. They moved to Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, where Richard attended Officer Training School.
After the service, they returned to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jeanne was active in the Council Bluffs Service League, PEO, and church activities, gave piano lessons, and was on the Mardi Gras committee.
The next move was to Hasting, Nebraska where Jeanne was active in the Episcopal Church Women, PEO, food bank, and the Symphony Board. She spent many years as a district officer of Phi Mu, where she was a 76-year member. She was a member of the Summer Resident Association in Estes Park, Colorado.
On Dick’s retirement, they moved to Sun City West, Arizona, where they were active in the community and volunteered at St Mary’s Food Bank. She belonged to the Phoenix Phi Mu Alumnae Chapter, Chapter DG of PEO, and the Episcopal Church Women. Jeanne’s favorite things were jigsaw puzzles, bridge, and sports – a long time and loyal Cub’s, Husker’s, and Sun’s fan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Mary’s Food Bank or Advent Episcopal Church in Sun City West.
The service will be on Saturday, April 27th at 11:00 AM at the Advent Episcopal Church in Sun City West. The service can be streamed on Facebook or YouTube at Advent SCW.
