Jerry O. Swinford, 87 and his wife Joann T Swinford, 86 of Sun City West, AZ passed away peacefully in Arcola, IL departing from this world days apart, all while embraced by the comforting presence of their family.

Jerry was born on December 29, 1936 in Bradley, IL. He was the son of Francis and Hazel (Akers) Swinford.

Joann was born on April 26, 1937 in Peoria, IL. She was the daughter of Joseph and Lorene (Bertrand) Gustin.

Jerry and Joann were married on October 6, 1957, in Bradley IL, commencing a remarkable journey that spanned 66 years of enduring companionship.

Jerry invested numerous years into his distinguished career at J M Jones/Supervalu, a journey that began in his teenage years with humble tasks like bagging groceries. His unwavering determination and dedication propelled him through the ranks, securing multiple promotions and culminating in an upper management position from which he eventually retired. Meanwhile, Joann dedicated her professional years to serving as a Registered Nurse. She began her career in a pediatrician’s private practice before eventually transitioning to a hospital setting, where she found herself undertaking various nursing duties in different areas of the hospital. Joann was committed to continuously advancing her knowledge, actively participating in continued education programs to stay current with the evolving trends and developments in the field of nursing. She steadily progressed in her career, eventually reaching the position of Manager of the Procedure Center, a role she maintained until her retirement at Provena Covenant.

Jerry and Joann reveled in the pleasures of camping, golfing, and traveling, indulging in boating, and dancing. Cherishing moments with family and friends, they embraced social gatherings that often unfolded with shared laughter, delectable meals, and spirited rounds of cards or board games. They embraced life to the fullest, cherishing memories that life offered beneath the warmth of the Arizona sun.

Mr. and Mrs. Swinford are survived by loving daughter Michelle (Richard-deceased) Mattlin of Tuscola, IL. and son Michael (Michael Metzler) Swinford of Palm Springs CA, four grandchildren, Christina (Daniel) Herschberger, Nicole (Olen) Brenneman of Tuscola, IL. Sarah (Martin) Glaze of Spring, TX, Justin (Kate) Swinford of Urbana, IL, and seven great-grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by one brother Francis (Joyce) Swinford of Kankakee, IL. and sister Judy (Marvin) Saxsma of Bourbonnais, IL.

They are both preceded in death by their parents and Joann’s sister Jacqueline (Eugene-surviving) Adame.

A celebration of life in memory of Jerry and Joann to come at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a Memorial Contribution to: Alzheimer’s Association.
