John Seaverson Obituary

John Lloyd Seaverson, D.D.S.

March 11, 1947-March 6, 2023

John L. Seaverson was born March 11, 1947, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the son of Alice (Hagman) and Lloyd Seaverson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He attended Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating with the class of 1965.  He then graduated as a member of the first class of Northland Community College in 1967.  He continued his education at the University of Minnesota with a bachelors degree double major in chemistry and biology in 1969, and then attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry 1969-1973.  After graduating from dental school, he returned to Thief River Falls and joined his family dentist, Dr. Herb Achenbach, in practice.  He practiced dentistry over thirty-eight years in Thief River Falls before retiring in 2011.  Dr. Seaverson was always interested in keeping well informed with modern dental techniques, attending many continuing education classes, and in 1986 became a Fellow of the Academy of General Denistry. On September 14, 1968, he married Lorraine Lietzow (Lincoln High School class of 1964) at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, and to this union two sons were born, John Derek Seaverson and Marc Edward Seaverson.  They raised their family in Thief River Falls and lived there until retirement. John and Lorraine were blessed with three grandchildren, Jack, Cole and Ruby ("princess").  They were certainly blessings in their lives and cherished by Nama and Grandpa. Following retirement, John and Lorraine moved to the retirement community of Sun City Grand in Surprise, Arizona during the winter months, and spent the summer months in Spring Park, MN. Dr. Seaverson was involved in the community and was a member of the TRF Jaycees and Lions Club for 35 years.  He also served on various boards including Jobs, Inc., Norwest Bank, TRF Amateur Hockey Association, TRF Golf Club, Northwest District Dental Board and Trinity Church Council. John's passion for hockey started in his early school years, continued with his coaching at the Squirt level, and watching and helping with his sons and grandsons in their hockey years.  He attended hockey games and followed teams at many levels throughout the years.  During his high school years, he spent a fair amount of leisure time shooting pool and snooker down at the TRF Pool Hall with longtime friends, Marc, Dave and Larry.  John enjoyed hunting with family and friends in Minnesota and South Dakota.  His hunting interest was shown in the many wildlife prints he displayed in his dental office.  John had a variety of interests throughout his life and included Country Western music, cowboy boots, hats and belt buckles, owning big Cadillac cars and his little red Corvette. John is survived by his wife, Lorraine: children, John Derek (Kari) Seaverson of Chaska, Minnesota, and Marc Edward (Erin) Seaverson of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Jack, Cole, and Ruby Seaverson; siblings, Bev Pawloski of Thief River Falls, Ruby Jenson of Thief River Falls and Roy (Julie) Seaverson of Surprise, AZ; sister-in-law, Marian Ellingson of Vancouver, B.B., Canada; brothers-in-law, Ron Pilcher of Thief River Falls, MN, Ed Lietzow of LaCrosse, WI, Ron (Marlys) Lietzow of Sioux Falls, S.D. and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
