Kathleen Broman Obituary

On Thursday, February 29th, 2024, Kathleen Mary Broman, loving mother and wife, passed away at the age of 89 in Sun City West, Arizona.

Kathy was born on July 12th, 1934, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Andrew and Esther Pavey. She grew up in Crookston, Minnesota, before leaving for Missouri, where she earned her undergraduate degree from Stephens College. After Stephens, she attended the University of Minnesota where she formed lifelong friendships while earning her nursing degree. She raised three children with her first husband, Roger Krueger, in Lagrange, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Minnetonka, Minnesota. In 1996 she married Keith Broman, and they resided in Minnesota until they moved to Arizona in 2008.

Kathy’s nursing career spanned decades. Starting on the Red Lake Indian Reservation she worked closely with public health issues. Her nursing career was then applied to her three children until she reentered nursing in 1978 with a focus on nursing education. She educated countless nurses and patients over the next 20 years.

Kathy was as busy in retirement as she was while working and spent her time making jewelry, traveling, caring for her plants, playing cards, reading, and shopping.

She loved her dog, a standard poodle named Katie. Katie was not only a beloved companion but also a connector for her, helping her build a social circle through the dog park and obedience school.

Kathy was also an active member of Savvi senior community and a member of the Arizona federation for the blind. As she lost her vision she not only participated in conferences and workshops for her own disability workarounds she encouraged others with vision problems to join Savvi and continue to be active with the blind community.

She was an avid reader and writer of many short pieces about life and laughter. She never stopped investigating the world and people around her. She had a quick wit, an irreverent and intelligent sense of humor, and a gift for storytelling.

Kathy loved her husband, children and grandchildren fiercely, and she was very proud of their accomplishments. She never failed to celebrate and cheer on her family.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Andrew, her mother, Esther, and her brother, Ronald. She is survived by her husband, Keith, her children Dave (Suzanne) Krueger, Ron (Kelly) Krueger, Robin (Todd) Kessler, and her grandchildren: Michael Krueger, Rory Krueger, Reilly Krueger, Regan Krueger, and Rowan Krueger, as well as other extended family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

The service will be private, and her ashes will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
