Larry Larson Obituary

Larry W. Larson, M.D.

Larry W. Larson, M.D. of Sun City West, Arizona, walked with the Angels to his Heavenly Home on April 18, 2023.  He was surrounded by family and held in the arms of his beloved wife, best friend, soul mate and partner, Marcia Larson.

He was born March 18, 1951, to RuthElaine and William E. Larson of Bozeman, MT.

Larry was raised in Roseville, Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. He went on to receive his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1976.

Larry loved practicing medicine and was passionate about his career.  Devoted to his patients, his career started at Virginia Mason Hospital and Clinic of Seattle, Washington, then started a practice at Northwest Women’s Healthcare in Seattle, Washington. He moved on to Franciscan Health System in Tacoma, Washington and then had a private practice in Tacoma, Washington which truly was his heart. With the help of Kris Nay who managed billing, Karen Lees, front desk and receptionist and Marcia Larson his nurse, Larry was able to provide care to local patients until he moved to Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato, Minnesota until his retirement in 2020.

Larry’s refuge during his medical career was “The Cabin” located in Lake Wenatchee, Washington. He loved playing his piano, riding his bike, morning yoga, swimming and skiing with his son, Jonathan Larson.

Larry fell in love with the Rolling Stones at his first concert in Australia at age 14.  The song that brought his soon to be wife, Marcia, together was “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones.  Larry also found joy in all things Disney!

Larry was a kind and gentle man.  However, when it came to cookies, Larry kept inventory and reluctantly shared them!  This was well known by Dora, his nurse of many years in Mankato, Minnesota.  (And various colleagues over the years)!

It was not uncommon for Larry to revise his personal plans for his patients, often changing vacation plans at the last minute or answering his pager late at night or early morning. Then he went off to his car to take care of his patients, yellow backpack always in tow.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Marcia and his furry companion to the end, Ace, son Jonathan (Kristi), grandchildren Carter and Kaia, brother Steve (Mary), sister Suzanne (Boun) and Kathy (Jeff). In addition, many nieces and nephews as well as his brother-in-law, Mark Harris of Boise, Idaho.

We know that Larry was united with his parents William and RuthElaine as well as previous furry friends, Tobi and Joey. In honor of Larry’s request services will not be held, however donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or Arizona Humane Society.  Please join Larry’s family in sharing memories, pictures or videos on his tribute wall at www.caminodelsol.com.
