Lyle N. Johnson, age 96, of Poynette, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 5th, 2023, in his daughter, Kathy Ford’s home, in Wittmann, AZ. Lyle was born on March 28th, 1927, in Alcester, South Dakota, and is the son of Levi and Josie (Jensen) Johnson. He married Shirley Bishop on April 25th, 1953, in Waterville, Maine. He was a proud member of the U.S. Military, serving in both the Army and Air Force. His service included deployment to Germany during WWII. After service to his country ended, Lyle married the love of his life and moved to Madison, WI, where he continued his service to community as a Madison police officer. During this time, he was nominated for, and received, Honorable Mention for the Wisconsin Policeman’s Protective Association Meritorious Award for risking his life to save the lives of 20 people. He always considered service to others as an honor. Lyle was an adventurous soul, and in 1960, moved his young family to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he enjoyed many exciting experiences, including earthquakes, floods, and flying all over the state with bushpilots for his career in title insurance and banking. Upon moving back to Wisconsin, Lyle worked for Badger Ammunition and finally retired from the state, having worked with the Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Poynette. Lyle loved family, travel, hunting, and fishing. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Dale) Hathaway, Poynette, and Kathleen Ford, Arizona; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Casey) Hathaway, Poynette, Shaun (Wendy) Hathaway, Fitchburg, and Drew (Melissa) Hathaway, Waunakee, three great-grandchildren, Kloie and Vance Hathaway, and Evelyn Hathaway; his beloved sister, Darlene Horstmann, Madison, his dearest sister-in-law, Dawn Pelotte, Del Rio, TX, other in-laws; nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Marvin and Joanne, and his son-in-law, Bill Ford. There will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be announced and held at a later date. The family would like to extend special thanks to Arlington EMS for their excellent care and compassion during these past few years. Also, a special thanks to Banner Hospice of AZ for the care and compassion given to Lyle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arlington EMS. Services are in the care of Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel.
