Mark Salyer Obituary

Mark Charles Salyer

Mark Charles Salyer (1946-2024) passed away peacefully on February 25, at the age of 77 in Peoria, AZ, surrounded by his family and friends.  Mark was born on August 18, 1946, in San Francisco, CA, to the late Charles and Marcheta Salyer.  He is survived by his wife Patricia (Pat) of Sun City West, AZ, son, Matthew St. Germain of San Diego, CA, and daughters, Cindi Lou Tompkins (Donald) of Blanchard, ID, Joe Beth Saiz (Lorenzo) of Clovis, NM, Jennifer Salyer-Vargas of Colorado Springs, CO, and Suzette Salyer (Toni) of Topock, AZ.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, his sister, Melanie Salyer of Cabo San Lucas, his brother Matthew Salyer of Pollock Pines, CA, and his brother-in-law, George Magill (Miriam) of Sebastian, FL.  He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Marilynn Guidi (Angelo).  Mark was raised in San Francisco and attended Lincoln High School.  After high school he joined the Army, soon thereafter transferring over to the Air Force and is a 20+ year veteran, including a tour in Vietnam.  After retiring from the Air Force, in 1990 Mark met the love of his life, Pat, where they began their love affair, got married in 1993, and were getting ready to celebrate 31 years of marriage on March 13, 2024.  Mark worked for a large property management firm in Palo Alto, California, for several years.  He took various classes at the University of California, Berkeley. University Extension, acquiring several certificates in courses of study relative to his employment.  He held an associate membership in the American Institute of Architects.  In 2003, he became Sr. Vice President for a large multi-million-dollar company in San Diego, CA, where he was responsible for all new construction in the western United States, managed a staff of many, and effectively managed an annual budget of $2 million.  In his spare time, Mark designed, built, and remodeled several homes, the largest in 2002, in Newark, CA, where he was honored by the City of Newark for his outstanding craftsmanship and unique design.  Mark and Pat began their retirement in 2014 in Arizona where Mark continued to remodel their various homes.  His sage advice, and expertise helped many neighbors and friends complete their own home projects, large and small.  He held his California State Contractor’s License until he died.  Mark was a proud member of the Elks USA, Paradise, CA, Lodge No. 2026, where he was a trustee and named Elk of the Year 2010-11.  He also belonged to the northern California chapters of the Eagles and the Moose.  Mark loved to fish and enjoyed several fishing trips including one he took with his brother to Mexica that he always referred to as a “trip of a lifetime.”  Mark was a Christian.  He believed in God and trusted in God.  He was also a gourmet cook and amazed his family and friends with his exquisitely tasting meals and elaborate dishes.  To know Mark was to love Mark.  He will always be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, never-ending sense of humor, and (sometimes spicy) corny jokes.  Services will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Downtown, 2615 21st Street, Sacramento, CA, 95818, on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at 12:00 noon.  Donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or a charitable foundation of your choice.
