Marlys was born on November 22,1923 to Scandinavian parents, Erick and Ella Larson, in Colgan, North Dakota, and was the oldest of four children including Leonard, Donald and Mabel.
She grew up on the family farm in Colgan, North Dakota and then moved to Minnesota as a young adult. Marlys met her husband, Morrell Larson, while in Minnesota and they married on November 29, 1941. He was a very devoted and loving husband for 65 years. After marrying, they moved back to Colgan and then to Williston, North Dakota in 1951. They had five children and spent many loving years finding enjoyment raising their family, entertaining longstanding friends, and enjoying golf in their retirement years. They were active members of Our Redemer’s Lutheran Church in Williston and Marlys was involved with the American Cancer Society and the Mercy Hospital cancer support group as well as various church and community events.
Over the years, Marlys loved to garden, read, cook, play bridge and pinochle with her Williston friends. In 2013, she moved to an assisted living facility in Surprise, Arizona and immediately became involved in the social committee and was very active enjoying her new friends and new card games along with bridge and pinochle. She lived in Surprise until her passing. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Morrell, son Brian, son-in-law Harley Leverenz, and great granddaughter Ashley Monahan.
She is survived by four children and their spouses Linda (Jack) Carollo (Sun City West, Arizona), Sharon Leverenz (Queen Creek, Arizona), Gary (Connie) Larson (Eden Prairie, Minnesota), Peggy (Marc) Harding (Portland, Oregon), several grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as nephews and nieces.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
