On Wednesday, December 29, 2021 Marlys Marie Skillings, loving wife and mother of three daughters, passed away at the age of 82.
Marlys was born to Fred and Geraldine (Erikson) Rucki on September 13, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she resided until 1973.
Marlys grew up in “NordEast” Minneapolis until she moved to S.E. Minneapolis where she met her husband George in her junior year of high school in 1957. George and Marlys were married June 14, 1958. They welcomed daughter Jerri Jean in May of 1959, Suzy in May of 1960 and Sally Ann in July of 1962. Life was busy with three little girls, but Marlys always loved to work outside the home. In Minneapolis she worked at Clancy’s make-up counter and did some modeling in print and local fashion shows. In 1973 George, Marlys and the girls moved to Sioux City Iowa where Marlys started her Mary Kay Career. This was a perfect job for her as she loved glamour and makeup. More importantly, she was an amazing motivational speaker and touched so many women in Mary Kay with her story of resilience in the face of adversity. Marlys, with George’s help, promoted to the highest level in Mary Kay Cosmetics breaking records and retiring in 2005 as one of the top three national sales director in the company.
Marlys and George loved Colorado and moved there in 1980 and stayed until 2005. Their final destination to live was sunny Arizona where Marlys’ brother Fred and cousin Donna lived.
Marlys’ hobbies included shopping and decorating. As George said “She was a smart shopper and knew how to find designer wares and clothing at a discounted price.” Marlys was loving, kind and genuine. Her personality and warmth lit up every room she entered. Her compassion, enthusiasm and love continue to live on in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Marlys is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Geraldine Rucki. She is survived by her loving, supportive husband George, daughters Jerri Jean Angerman (Pat), Suzy Miller (Tony), and Sally Ann Quinn (Kevin). A brother Fred Rucki (Vicki). Granddaughters Wendy Raby (Andre Sims), Casey Scott (Nick), Lindsay Angerman (Jason Cline), Samantha Godinez (Gustavo), Britteny Angerman (Johnny Cabrera), Toni Marie Miller (Jordan Vallejo), Emma Miller (Nathan Hartigan), Madison Quinn and Sophia Quinn.
