Mary Murray Obituary

Mary Kay Murray, 99, Surprise, AZ (formerly an Omaha, NE and Palm Desert, CA resident). Passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, at the Hospice of the Valley. She is preceded in death by her parents,

Frank and Lucretia Matejcek; husband John “Jack” H. Murray (married 62 years!); sister and brother in-law Margaret Elaine (Murray) Hautman and Thomas “Tuck” Hautman and sister in-law Evelyn I. Matejcek.

Mary Kay is survived by her brother Edward Matejcek (95 years young!); sons, Timothy Murray, Thomas Murray (Mary), John Murray, Matthew Murray (Theresa), Joseph Murray (Sue); daughter Molly Ferm (David); and

grandchildren Laura, John (Lindsay), Christopher and Jonah.

Mary Kay was born in Faribault, MN on September 6, 1924. Mary Kay graduated from The College of Saint Catherine in Saint Paul, MN with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a student Nurse Cadet during WWII.  As a

beautiful nurse, she then served in the Minneapolis, MN Veterans hospital in 1950. She married “Jack” H. Murray December 26, 1950. During their 62 years of wonderful lives together, they had 6 beautiful children and 4 loving

grandchildren. Together they enjoyed golf, tennis (she played until she was 90 years old!), bridge (they are Life Master bridge players), cheering for their favorite teams (Nebraska Cornhuskers & the Arizona Diamondbacks) and

traveling around the world. She was also a talented pianist, violinist and choir singer. They made lifelong friendships in Omaha, Palm Desert and more recently in Surprise at the Colonnade; an energetic community where they

lived life to its fullest. Mary Kay’s life was defined by compassion, caregiving, determination, energy, generosity, leadership, competitor, intelligence, endurance and gratitude. She had a high moral character and a deep faith in God.

As a Nurse she instilled in us that laughter is the best medicine. We enjoyed a lifetime of her fun-loving impish humor. She aged gracefully with dignity and humility. Our precious gift has returned to God. She is beloved by every life

she touched.
