Patricia Ann Pyland Long passed away June 1, 2021, in Surprise, Arizona at the age of 92.
Pat, as she liked to be called, was born January 22, 1929 in Waco, Texas to Van and Jesse Pyland.
She enjoyed traveling and living in locations in Texas, Florida and Cape Cod as a child. In 1946, she graduated from Waco High School in Waco, Texas. She attended Baylor University and graduated from Jenkins-Barnes School of Medical Technology.
She married John M. Long in 1949. She worked at Dallas Children’s’ Hospital in Texas and at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque.
With her husband she raised two girls and many dogs, cats and other pets. She was an avid golfer, skier and animal lover. She loved to read, especially the works of Louis L’Amour, David Baldacci and Tony Hillerman. Once retired, they RV’d full time for seven years following good weather, enjoying many golf courses and visits with friends and family.
She is survived by daughters Jeanne (Patrick) Phillips of Sun City West, Arizona and Cynthia (Sean) Phelan of Corrales, New Mexico, and grandsons Ian Greene (Kristen), Wesley Phillips and Brady Phelan. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Pat’s name. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
