Richard Catlin Obituary

              Catlin, Richard Allen, 93, passed away on March 10th, 2023. He was born July 17, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Leslie Arnold and Vivian Irene Catlin (Nee:Marvin). He was raised in E. Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated from Shaw High School in 1947. On August 5th, 1950, he married Audrey Fay Jensen, also a graduate from Shaw. They had two children: Richard Leslie and Susan Fay. Dick attended Muskingum College and Case Western Reserve University. He holds an A.B.A. degree from Fenn College and a B.B.A. degree from Cleveland State University. He also completed management and organization development Graduate courses at Cleveland State University, Harvard Business School, and Kellogg Business School (Northwestern University). He served 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Coast during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in December of 1994.

              He then returned to his former employer TRW in Euclid, Ohio. He later served in management positions with the Glidden/Durkee Corporation, the Union Commerce Bank, the Society Corporation, and Bank One. While working in Cleveland, he was a member of the Cleveland City Club, the City Advisory Health Board, the Mayor’s Advisory Board (Education and Training), the Greater Cleveland Community Council, and was a member of the Committee Chair of the Chamber of Commerce and the United Way, and also a member of the Madison Country Club in Madison, Ohio. In 1985, he and Audrey moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he joined the Executive Management team of the AMCORE Financial Corporation. He was a Board member and Committee Chair on each of the five Community Banks owned by AMCORE. He retired from AMCORE as Corporate Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer in 1993. In Rockford, he was the president of the Board of Wesley Willows Corporation, the Visiting Nurses Association, the Milestone Corporation, and served the Rockford Country Club. In 1994, Dick opened the Catlin Management Consulting Company and dissolved it in 1996 when he and Audrey retired to Sun City West, Arizona.

              He was elected and served as a member and President of the Board of the Sun City West Recreation Centers. He also served as a President of the Briarwood Country Club, the Sun City West Rotary Club, the Sun City West Rotary Endowment Fund, and the Sun City West Foundation. He was Secretary of the West Valley Symphony and was a member of the Sun Health Foundation Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church. He served as a Chair of the Staff/ Parish Relations Committee, as a Lay Leader and Certified Lay Speaker, and occasionally served as a substitute Preacher. He was a thirty-second-degree life-time Mason, a member of the Shrine, and a Rotarian from 1970 to 2020. He thoroughly loved baseball in his early years and was an avid golfer. He is survived by the love of his life, Audrey, son Rick, daughter Susan, Grandchildren Christopher, Eric (Pinatda), Brian Kyle, Cory (Laura) and Kelly (Chris), Great Grandchildren Mazzy, Maverick, Isabelle, Cory Jr., Mason, and Emerson, and several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Rev. Robert L. Catlin.

              Services will be held at the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church located at 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, Arizona, 85375, on Saturday April 29th, at 1:00pm.
