Robert "Bob" Unverzagt

On Monday, April 3, 2023, Robert “Bob” Unverzagt passed away at the age of 86. Bob was born on January 8, 1937, in Islip, NY to Joseph and Mary (Wagner) Unverzagt.  Upon graduation from Sayville High School, he joined the US Navy as a radioman.  After his service he joined Sperry Univac in computer repair, a field he remained in for his professional career at several companies.  On April 15, 1961, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Alves, and they raised two children, Rob and Suzanne.

Bob was an avid golfer, playing multiple times a week until very recently.  He also enjoyed casino gambling, making regular trips to Las Vegas and local Indian casinos.  Every year he combined these hobbies in golf excursions to Nevada with a group of friends where they would “golf all day and gamble all night”. He was always quick with a joke and a smile that brightened the days of everyone around him.

Bob is survived by his wife Betty, his two children, Rob and wife Tara, and Suzanne and husband Tom.  He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Bobby, Nico and Celeste, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at St. Clare’s Catholic Church in Surprise at 10:30am followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale at 1:45pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to St. Vincent de Paul.
