On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, Virgie Henderson, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and follower of Christ, passed away at age 73.
Virgie was born in Kearney, NE to Walter and Mildred Colby. Her early years were spent in the Los Angeles area, later moving to Albuquerque, NM where she became a mother of two boys, while earning a Bachelor’s and Master's degree. In her 50 year career, Virgie worked as a contract specialist and analyst for the Air Force, as well as other supporting agencies.
Virgie passed away peacefully at home in Sun City West, AZ where she had moved in 2018 to enjoy year-round outdoor activities, including pickleball, golf, dancing, and travel, where she continued to develop many meaningful friendships across the country. Virgie also regularly participated in both national and international pickleball tournaments.
Virgie was also very involved in her community and church, being active in Bible studies, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and other programs to give back over the years.
Virgie is survived by her sons, Matthew (Jean) Henderson, and Scott (Chelcie) Henderson, and granddaughter Brooklyn. Also surviving are her sister Julie Colby, and nieces, Mary Mackey, and Victoria Crabb.
A memorial service will be held at Camino Del Sol Funeral Home in Sun City West, AZ on May 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
