William “Bill” John Anderson, Jr., 86, Glenfield, NY, passed away on March 25, 2024, at the Banner Del E Webb Medical Center in Sun City West, AZ.
Bill was born on November 1, 1937, in Mineville, NY the son of the late William John Anderson, Sr. and Anna M. (Huchro) Anderson. He was united in marriage to Ann Burdick on May 29, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Constableville, NY.
He received a BS and MS in Education from SUNY College at Plattsburgh and started his career teaching at Keene Valley Central School District for 5 years. He then moved to South Lewis Central School District in 1964, where he worked as an Elementary Administrator, Principal, and Teacher before retiring in 1993.
Bill was actively involved in many organizations including the South Lewis Lions Club, Lowville Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Parish Council, local Winter Special Olympics, Retired Educators of New York, as well as many others in New York and Arizona. His early life growing up in the Adirondacks gave him a great love of the outdoors and he spent many happy hours hunting, fishing, swimming, and hiking in the Adirondacks and Canada. He passed his knowledge and love of nature on to many others, informally at the end of a dock and, formally, as a NYS Hunter Safety Instructor.
Bill is survived by his wife: Ann M. (Burdick) Anderson; their two children: Andrew W. Anderson and his wife, Lelia Walsh Anderson; Kari K. (Anderson) Fahrenbach and her husband, Christopher T. Fahrenbach; six grandchildren: Zachary W. Anderson; Nicholas R. Anderson and his wife, Ushta Cawasji; Thomas W. Fahrenbach; Nathaniel E. Fahrenbach; Sybil E. Anderson; and Audrey V. Anderson; a sister: Barbara (Anderson) Lenihan, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Payne, a sister and brother-in-law, Brian and Phyllis Samuelson, and a brother-in-law Rick Ehlers plus several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, his parents-in-law, William and Dorothy Burdick, a sister-in-law, Nancy Burdick Cook, and brothers-in-law, John Lenihan and Robert Payne.
A Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Lowville, NY with Rev. Christopher Carrara officiating. Burial will be at the Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Moriah, Essex County, NY on May 24, 2024, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the North Central Zone of the Retired Educators of New York (RENY) scholarship for high school seniors who are planning on entering into a field of education.
