William Charles Schwenck

May 15, 1938 ~ September 4, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Obituary

William ‘Bill’ Charles Schwenck was born May 12, 1938, in Ashland, Nebraska to John & Dorothy Agnes Schwenck. He joined the United States Navy in 1956, where he served until being medically discharged in 1959. He married Vaunda Schwenck (née Brophy) in 1961, where they spent 62 loving years by each other’s sides. William passed away September 4, 2023 of Parkinson’s and complications from bladder cancer.

Growing up, William excelled at sports and went on to being the captain of both the football and basketball teams. An article in the Ashland Gazette referred to the ‘Schwenck Trifecta’ where, starting with William, all three brothers made the first touchdown catch of their football championship game. His love for sports lasted his whole life. Anyone visiting his home could certainly catch a Huskers football game, an NFL or NBA game, or really any game on ESPN playing on the television next to his computer desk. He also had an extensive Huskers memorabilia collection scattered throughout his house from decades of collecting. Bill loved the outdoors, spending summers camping, boating and fishing & winters skiing in Colorado.

He started working at Omaha’s Northwestern Bell phone company, later known as Qwest, and became Manager of Communications until his retirement. After retiring, he became the neighborhood IT guy and helped schools in Franklin, NE receive government grants. Bill and Vaunda moved to Sun City, AZ in ‘99, one of many family members who settled in the Grand Canyon State. Bill had a fascination for anything tech related, figuring out computers, smart phones, and Wi-Fi with no help. Anyone knew if they wanted to find Bill, the first place to look was his computer desk.

William is survived by his wife, Vaunda; daughter, Deanna Robison (née Schwenck) & son-in-law, Cory; grandchildren Alyssa Lierman (& husband Broderick), Garrett, Taneka, & Conner; great-grandchildren Kadence, Adalynn, Eason, Kellen, Genevieve & one baby girl on the way; siblings Marie (Pittman) & John (& wife Pamela). He was preceded in death by parents John & Dorothy; son, James Martin; siblings Faith (Wiemer) & Richard; and his favorite nephew Duane Wiemer.
